This 2-1/2" OD carbon fiber straight tube is designed for demanding applications such as air intake systems, automotive components, motorsports, and lightweight structural assemblies. Combining a large outside diameter with a lightweight carbon fiber construction, it provides an excellent balance of strength, stiffness, durability, and appearance.
Compared with conventional aluminum tubing, carbon fiber tubing can weigh approximately 35–40% less, helping reduce overall system weight without sacrificing the strength and rigidity required for demanding applications. Its lightweight construction makes it an ideal choice for performance-oriented projects where weight reduction is an important consideration.
The tube is manufactured using 3K carbon fiber embedded in clear epoxy resin through a wet layup process. The carbon fiber reinforcement is carefully laminated and cured to create a strong composite structure, while the clear epoxy allows the distinctive carbon fiber pattern to remain highly visible. After curing, the surface is polished to achieve a smooth, attractive finish suitable for both functional and aesthetic applications.
Each visible carbon fiber bundle consists of approximately 3,000 individual carbon filaments, which is where the term 3K carbon fiber comes from. The tube features a 2x2 twill weave pattern, in which the fiber bundles alternate in an angled over-and-under pattern. Compared with plain weave, twill weave creates a more distinctive and visually appealing diagonal pattern while providing comparable reinforcement characteristics when the overall laminate construction is properly engineered.
The 2x2 twill carbon fiber finish is particularly popular for applications where appearance is important. Its uniform weave pattern and polished surface provide the premium look commonly associated with high-performance carbon fiber components.
This carbon fiber tube features a 0.059-inch (1.5 mm) nominal wall thickness, providing a strong and rigid tubular structure while maintaining a relatively low overall weight. The straight tube configuration also makes it convenient for cutting, joining, fabrication, and integration into custom assemblies.
