A pultruded carbon fiber tube is not just a lighter version of an aluminum tube. It is a directional composite structure. Most of its strength comes from continuous carbon fibers running along the length of the tube. This makes it very efficient for certain loads, especially axial tension, compression, and bending. At the same time, it also means the tube may not behave like metal when it is twisted, clamped, crushed, drilled, or loaded from the side.

What Is a Pultruded Carbon Fiber Tube?
A pultruded carbon fiber tube is a composite tube manufactured through the pultrusion process. In this process, continuous carbon fiber reinforcements are pulled through a resin system and then through a heated die. The heat cures the resin and forms the final tube shape.
The word “pultrusion” is sometimes confusing because it sounds similar to extrusion. The difference is important. In extrusion, material is pushed through a die. In pultrusion, fibers are pulled through the die. This pulling action helps keep the carbon fibers continuous and aligned along the tube length.
