The difference between general carbon fiber sheet plates and quasi-isotropic CF plates
Fiber orientation factors into the strength and stiffness. There are 2 approaches to laminate design for carbon fiber composite panels, the laminates of which are angularly oriented to yield different structural properties. 0/90 degree layup and a quasi-isotropic layup.
General CF plates
Normally, our carbon fiber flat sheet was laid at 0°/90° orientation. When using only 0-degree and 90-degree layers, the resulting laminate is weaker along the 45-degree diagonal. This weakness leads to higher deflections in off-axis bending and tension, up to 50% higher compared to quasi-isotropic carbon fiber sheets. However, for the majority of typical applications, 0º/90º sheets can still perform effectively.
Quasi-Isotropic Carbon Fiber Plate
Carbon fiber prepreg fabric was layed at 0°/90°/45°. If stiffness along the 45-degree axis is required, quasi-isotropic carbon fiber sheets have superior performance.
