The results show, that the direct tapping into a carbon fibre reinforced polymer is possible. The two tested threads have both shown a good load capacity of averaged 4.42 kN for M5 and 6.56 kN for the M8 thread.
 
Can you rivet carbon fiber?
 
Riveting carbon fiber composites is quite problematic: You need to use expensive titanium fasteners because aluminium rivets would quickly corrode when in electrical contact to the electrochemically much nobler carbon fibers.
 
Can you drill a hole in carbon fiber?
 
The best bits for drilling carbon fiber are solid carbide or diamond. These bits are very brittle though and should only be used in a rigid setup like a drill press or mill. If you try to use these with a hand drill, even if you use drill bushings, they can easily shatter.
 
Is carbon fibre stronger than steel?
 
Strength. Though steel is generally considered the standard when it comes to construction and industrial settings, in terms of strength to weight ratios, carbon fiber is actually significantly stronger than steel.
 
How long can carbon fiber last?
