Product Description
Custom Design & Manufacturing High Performance Carbon Fiber Pultruded Tubing
Description:
Pultruded carbon fibre tubes are manufactured using the pultrusion process whereby carbon fibre tow is pulled through a resin bath into a heated die which forms and cures the profile. This continuous drawn process can only produce tubes with all of the fibres aligned lengthways down the tube, resulting in tubes that are as strong as possible longitudinally but more vulnerable to crushing or splitting compared to roll-wrapped tubes, which have at least some fibre aligned in the 'hoop' direction.
The pultrusion process is better suited to smaller diameter tubes and our range extends from the incredibly small 0.5mm OD tube up to a 12mm OD tube. For tube diameters where you have the choice between a pultruded or roll wrapped tube, pultrusion is best for applications where you need the maximum possible stiffness down the length of the tube and you are not too worried about needing resistance to crush, burst or twist.
All our pultruded carbon fibre tubes are manufactured using high strength carbon fibre with an epoxy resin matrix for maximum performance, durability and accuracy. They are suitable for a wide range of applications including UAVs, quad-copters, aero-modelling, automation, leisure equipment, motor-sport and much more.
Our Carbon Fiber Pultruded Tubes are manufactured by pulling continuous carbon fibers combined with a resin matrix through a heated steel forming die. This process is referred to as pultrusion and is used for producing continuous lengths of composite materials with constant cross-sections.
As the carbon fibers are saturated with the resin mixture and then pulled through a die, the hardening of the resin is initiated by the heat from the die and a rigid, cured tube is formed in the shape and size of the die. The majority of the fibers are running in the 0 degree direction, along the length of the tube, to produce an extremely stiff and lightweight tube with a very low coefficient of expansion. This type of construction offers a high stiffness to weight ratio tube with incredible linear strength, due to the orientation of the carbon fibers, and tight outer diameter (OD) tolerances.
Our Pultruded Carbon Fiber Tubes have a matte finish surface and are covered with a light glass scrim to improve structural integrity of the tube.
