Product Description

High Performance Twill Weave Gloss Finish Carbon Fiber Roll Wrapped Tube

Carbon Fiber Roll Wrapped Tube Description:

Roll Wrapped Carbon Fiber Tube Twill Weave Gloss Finish uses high strength unidirectional equivalent carbon fiber core with an epoxy resin system to ensure a strong rigid tube that will meet your needs. In addition to this high-strength uni core, this tube is finished with a beautiful 2x2 twill weave carbon fiber and then given a gloss finish. Due to raw material constraints, it is hard to create pipes exactly at a specific measurement unless they are built over-sized and machined down so that is why our pipes may be a few thousandths off from the ideal measurement we are trying to match.

Features:

  • Lightweight: Carbon fiber is 5 times lighter than steel (ASTM-A1008) and almost 2 times lighter than aluminum when comparing similar-sized pieces.
  • High Strength & Stiffness: Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) has the highest specific strength and modulus (stiffness) per density compared to metal, plastic, and wood.
  • Resistance to Corrosion & Chemicals: The epoxy resin is inert and not susceptible to corrosion or rust, and the carbon bonds in the fibers are extremely strong and resistant to oxidization.
  • Low Thermal Expansion: When metal is exposed to heat, it will expand and weaken which can cause issues and possible failure of the part. Carbon fiber has low thermal expansion.
  • Low Thermal Conductivity: Metal acts as a conductor, steel more than aluminum, which can transmit or radiate heat to its surroundings and cause heat soak. Carbon fiber has low thermal conductivity.
  • RF Shielding: Carbon Fiber works well to attenuate, or block radiofrequency waves, protecting your devices from scanners or people trying to access your data.

The first use of carbon fiber in high performances goes back to 1960-1970. It became popular very quickly in every technical area where lightness and strenght were primary requirements.

Carbon fiber originates from thermal pyrolysis in a controlled oven where a material called precursor is strongly warmed up at a temperature of about 2000° C in an inert gas atmosphere to produce graphite.

Then other heat treatments modify the final properties of the fibers, for example warming up at temperatures lower than 2000°C gives you a more strenght material, whereas with higher temperatures you'll get a more expensive carbon fiber but with a higher Elastic Modulus (Young's modulus).

This is why today there are many kinds of carbon fibers that, even if they're similar, leads to products with different prices and performances.

The carbon fibers previously obtained are lately drowned in epoxy resin (called the matrix) that acts as a binder, allowding the fibers to work together and to distribute the strain uniformly to each one of them.

As you can guess this matrix has a primary role and it has been studied and improved in the last years, like the nanocomposite fillers inside of it.

So the carbon fibers drowned in the matrix become to all intents and purposes a composite material like the reinforced concrete, where the final mechanical features are higher than the ones of the constituents materials.

To print a tube with these materials today there are different technologies and each has advantages and disadvantages, but certainly, the wrapping process used by our company is the process with the best mechanical results. In fact, unlike other techniques allows you to have exactly all the fibers at 0 degrees or 90 degrees to the axis, and also to control the amount of resin in the product. For example, this would be very very difficult with the technique of filament winding.

So our composite carbon tubes and rollers use the best technology and materials existent nowadays to get incomparable results from other materials.
