Carbon Fiber Tube Matte Description:
Our Carbon Fiber tubes are designed for the best strength to weight ratio. We use a full wrap of 3K filament fabric impregnated with strong clear epoxy, then a fine gloss or matte finish is added. There are no fillers! These CF tubes provide a perfect balance between strength, stiffness, and weight. This design creates a very light tube, strong enough for Multi-copter design and their numerous crashes. Also, the twill design prevents damage from twisting the tube, enabling these tubes to handle heavier loads. These tubes are very different from the common "kite" tubes.
Other advantages include handling the pressure of motor blocks, preventing rotation failure, and crushing of the arm material common in multi-copter drone builds.

Tubes in this range are manufactured using the roll-wrapping process using 100% high strength carbon fibre reinforcement for excellent 'real-world' multi-axis strength but they are finished with an attractive 2x2 twill carbon fabric for that classic carbon fibre appearance resulting in tubes that look as good as they perform. These tubes are suitable for a wide range of applications including UAVs, quad-copters, aero-modelling, camera-rigs, tripods, automation, leisure equipment, motorsport and much more.
Roll-wrapped carbon fibre tubes are manufactured by wrapping multiple layers of prepreg carbon fibre reinforcement around a metal mandrel which is wrapped with shrink tape and cured at high temperature. Because the reinforcement is wrapped in layers around the mandrel, it is possible to alternate the alignment of the carbon fibre between layers, enabling roll wrapped tubes to have longitudinal stiffness down their length, as well as strength in the 'hoop' direction, making them more resilient to crush, burst and torsional fracture. The roll wrapping process is better suited to the production of medium and large diameter tubes and our range of roll wrapped tubes extends from 5mm (OD) up to 60mm (OD). For tube diameters where you have a choice of a roll wrapped or pultruded carbon fibre tube, roll wrapped tubes are better for applications where the tube may be subject to a variety of forces including bend, twist and crush whereas a pultruded tube will provide the maximum possible longitudinal stiffness at the expense of being more vulnerable to crush or twist.
Roll wrapped tubes in this woven finish sub-category feature an attractive woven carbon fibre appearance and a smooth glossy finish, ideal where the appearance of the tube is important. We do also stock a range of plain finish carbon fibre tubes which may be more cost-effective for applications that do not require a cosmetic finish.

1. How is the diameter of your tubes measured?
Except for pultruded tubes (diameter measured from outside), all DragonPlate tube diameters are measured from the inside of the tube (ID). To determine the approximate outside diameter, add 2x the wall thickness to the ID measurement.
2. What finish options do you offer for your tubes?
Finish options include gloss, natural, textured, and tooled, depending on tube type. Please see each tube type for finish options. We also offer a sanded finish upon request. Contact us for more details.
3. How do you recommend cutting DragonPlate carbon fiber tubes? Is there any safety gear that I should use?
DragonPlate carbon fiber tubes are pre-cut to the specified lengths or slightly oversized. The tubes are easily cut to length using a bandsaw, coping saw, or Dremel tool. Recommended precautions include wearing safety glasses, a dust respirator, and protective clothing when cutting, sanding or drilling, to limit exposure to the dust, which is an irritant.
